Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR) is a national not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (claihr.ca). The purpose of CLAIHR is to contribute to the protection of human rights globally, through carrying out and commissioning legal analyses of international human rights; contribute to the advancement of education of Canadians on human rights issues; and using and developing international human rights instruments and institutions, both domestically and internationally.
CLAIHR-Osgoode is a student chapter of CLAIHR. The purpose of CLAIHR – Osgoode is to promote an awareness of and encourage dialogue on international human rights issues. Whether it is through events, blogs, articles or direct engagement with legal issues, CLAIHR-Osgoode aims to get people talking about international human rights in the law.
The activities and operations of CLAIHR – Osgoode shall serve to:

The activities and operations of CLAIHR – Osgoode shall serve to:
- Complement the objectives and mandate of CLAIHR, as stated in the CLAIHR Constitution. In particular, CLAIHR – Osgoode cannot engage in political activities of any kind.
- Promote awareness of human rights issues within the Osgoode and greater York University community.
- Showcase a diverse range of human rights issues especially those that are underrepresented within the current human rights dialogue.
- Establish an inclusive and democratic space for open discussion, where all viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged. Under no circumstances will violence, racism, hatred or sexism be tolerated.
- Collaborate with other Osgoode organizations to broaden the scope and reach of human rights issues discussed on campus. In particular, to establish new partnerships between CLAIHR – Osgoode and Osgoode organizations not typically engaged in human rights issues.
- Provide project support to CLAIHR on various international human rights issues and projects.
- Comply with all campus policies relating to student organizations.
